This week is shaping up to be a busy one, with the Old Settlers Picnic kicking off and plenty of markets and music to get you out and about.
Kicking Off the Week
Starting today, Thursday, July 23, the Old Settlers Picnic begins at the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, running for a few days. If you're looking for something more immediate, the Barkley Market is on at Barkley Village Green with local produce, food trucks, and live music, all for free. In the evening, the Hotel Bellwether hosts Blues, Brews & BBQ with The Atlantics. Over at Elizabeth Park, you can catch The Unknowns performing harmonies for free. For some indoor entertainment, The Upfront Theatre has an improv classic, The GBU, at 7:30 PM.
The Weekend Ahead
Friday, July 24, brings the Twin Sisters Mobile Farmers Market to Nooksack Tribal Clinic in the morning. Later, the Silver Reef Casino Resort will have Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne Tribute if you're into that. The Fairhaven Art Walk is happening at Whatcom Art Market, which is free to attend. For outdoor music, Boulevard Park will host The Brie Mueller Band for a free concert. If you're up for some laughs, The Upfront Theatre has "Summer Camp Slasher" for $13. To round out Friday night, Barry Walker Unit plays The Shakedown.
Saturday, July 25, has a few community events early on, like NSEA Summer Stewards - Invasive Removal and a Community Work Party at Storybrook Park. The Bellingham Farmers Market is on at Depot Market Square, free to browse local goods. Downtown Lynden hosts the Front Street Arts Festival, also free, with local artists and regional music. For art lovers, the "Exquisite Corpse" Exhibition is at Allied Arts of Whatcom County, showcasing 62 artists. In the evening, Crazy Train - America's Ozzy Tribute is back at Silver Reef Casino Resort, and Grieves plays the Wild Buffalo House Of Music. For something a bit heavier, Old Town Scouts will be at The Shakedown.
Sunday, July 26, starts with the Twin Sisters Mobile Farmers Market at Northwest Pawn. Zuanich Point Park hosts Whatcom County's Inclusion Festival event. You can also take a guided tour of the Old City Hall at the Whatcom Museum. Later, SiNns will be performing at The Shakedown.
Looking Ahead to Next Week
On Monday, July 27, the Whatcom Museum opens "Not the Whole Picture," a retrospective exhibition. You can also catch local jazz musicians at Amendment 21 for Sunday Jazz Jams, which is free. Tuesday, July 28, sees Bilongo playing Latin jazz at Barkley Village Green for free. Florry will be at The Shakedown later that evening. Wednesday, July 29, Sean Atkins plays The Shakedown.
Thursday, July 30, the Barkley Market is back at Barkley Village Green. Elizabeth Park hosts bandZandt for a free performance. The New Prospect Theatre presents "Agnes of God" for $15, and The Upfront Theatre has a Student Showcase. The Mount Baker Rhythm and Blues Festival kicks off at Deming Logging Show for $15. For something a little different, Honey Moon Mead & Cider has "Heartbreak Hotel: a night of songs for tender hearts."
Friday, July 31, the 5th Annual FerndALE Block Party is happening at Fringe Boutique. Veronica North performs for free at Boulevard Park. The Upfront Theatre brings back "Summer Camp Slasher." The Make.Shift Art Space has the GRIPPING BEASTS ALBUM RELEASE SHOW, and Sun Crow plays The Shakedown.
Saturday, August 1, the Bellingham Farmers Market continues at Depot Market Square. Cordata Gallery opens "Charles Villiers: Untethered" for free. The Whatcom Art Center hosts Collage Connections.
